Holly

Dickens in the village, skis on the hill and brickwork worth looking up for.

Overheard in Holly
The railroad junction explains the compact historic commercial center.
Why winter

Mt. Holly makes this a genuine ski-and-supper stop close to metro Detroit. Three Dickens Festival weekends fill the historic center, while the surrounding recreation land supplies quieter winter days.

A random Saturday · 01

Victorian hat, modern skis

On a festival Saturday, watch the downtown performances, then switch centuries for a Mt. Holly afternoon or evening session if the slopes are open.

Or try · 02

Breakfast before the building inspection

Eat at Bittersweet, inspect the arches and upper-story cornices along South Saginaw, then head to Battle Alley Brewing for the later meal.

Field note

Dickens Festival costume and performance are local holiday traditions.

A winter tall tale · as told in Holly

The station finally caught a ride

Holly's 1886 Union Depot waited decades for a safer location. On December 9, 2025, crews moved it roughly 800 feet toward downtown with precisely controlled moving equipment. The relocation followed years of planning and fundraising. For once, the station itself was the passenger.

Good to know: Live-checked October 26, 2026. Blackthorn closed; Holly Hotel remains offered for sale with litigation ongoing. Andy's reopening coverage conflicts with its delayed-service notice, so it is omitted. Villagers' website was unavailable; its 2026 chamber meetings and current listings confirm operation. Hotels are outside Holly. Cabin address is the main park address; confirm check-in when reserving. The depot is history here, not an open attraction.
