The old Anchor Inn near Houghton Lake has collected decades of ghost stories from owners, staff and customers: footsteps, doors closing themselves, taps that turn on alone. Local lore adds Prohibition-era visits from Capone and the Purple Gang, which nobody has ever proved. Some guests, apparently, find checkout optional.
