Southeast Michigan — Washtenaw County · Town edition

Saline

A proper little downtown with a Welsh connection, an old church full of beer, and serious cocoa ambitions.

Why winter

Saline combines historic storefronts, good independent food, community festivals, and easy access to year-round parks. Its December Cocoa Crawl leads directly into the holiday parade, while winter recreation at Tefft Park and nearby Rolling Hills offers sledding and cross-country skiing when conditions permit.

A winter tall tale · as told in Saline

First Salt, Then Beer

Saline's name reflects the area's historic salt springs. Long after the springs gave the community its name, a local former church became Salt Springs Brewery. The converted building still features stained glass, but its modern congregation gathers over food and craft beer. It is an excellent example of a town preserving its past while finding something useful to do with it.

Good to know: Saline's December 5, 2026 Cocoa Crawl and Holiday Parade are confirmed through Saline Main Street and the Chamber. Winterfest is mentioned by the regional visitor bureau, but no 2026–27 date or current program was verified; keep it unpublished as a scheduled event until confirmed. Rolling Hills is outside Saline, and its ski rentals are weather-dependent. Tefft Park skating must never be promoted as available without official ice clearance. Hampton Inn Saline is confirmed through Hilton's website and Google Hotels; room rates were not checked. Several restaurants have current business listings and visitor-bureau or Saline Main Street directory entries, but their individual websites and day-specific hours were not all independently established. The Salt Springs, Brecon, and seafood descriptions reflect documented local dining coverage. Price categories are general editorial estimates rather than verified menu price bands.

Reviewed October 2026. Hours, prices and dates move; call ahead in January and February.
