Winter in Copper Harbor
Tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula & Lake Superior · Town edition

Copper Harbor

The rugged northernmost frontier village in Michigan, perched at the very tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula amid towering pines and frozen Lake Superior shores.

Overheard in Copper Harbor
Copper Harbor is the rugged frontier outpost at the very tip of Michigan, where winter storms off Lake Superior create a dramatic, isolated paradise.
Why winter

Copper Harbor in winter is the ultimate remote wilderness expedition. As the literal end of the road in Michigan (where US-41 terminates), the village sits in a massive snowbelt receiving over 300 inches of lake-effect powder. With Brockway Mountain blanketed in snow, remote snowmobile trails, and cozy winter cabins, it is a paradise for true northern adventurers.

A winter tall tale · as told in Copper Harbor

The truth about Lake Fanny Hooe

For a century, people told a grim story about the young woman who gave her name to the lake by Fort Wilkins: that she wandered off and drowned in it. The truth is better. Lucy Frances Hooe, Fannie to her family, spent the summer of 1844 visiting her brother at the fort, went home to Virginia, married and lived a long, ordinary life, never knowing a Michigan lake had given her a ghost story.
