Plymouth

A proper town square, Italian suppers and an ice festival that takes sculpture's shelf life personally.

Kellogg Park is downtown's common room; most of the itinerary can radiate from it.
Why winter

Kellogg Park puts winter spectacle within a few steps of independent coffee and dinner. The museum and indoor rink keep the weekend moving when the weather becomes overly enthusiastic.

Run a tiny sculpture salon

During Ice Festival, let everyone choose one Kellogg Park carving and defend its artistic merit before waffles at Omelette & Waffle Cafe.

One good day

Coffee Bean breakfast → Kellogg Park → Plymouth Historical Museum after 1 p.m. → Compari's → Sean O'Callaghan's.

Make it a weekend

Saturday: Ice Festival when in season, the museum and a reserved Fiamma dinner, staying at Robyn's Inn. Sunday: Omelette & Waffle Cafe and a quieter downtown walk; public skating needs a weekday session or a newly posted winter date.

Chicken and waffles

Home idea: put crisp cooked chicken on a freshly made waffle and add a little hot sauce to maple syrup. Serve immediately; the waffle has no interest in waiting politely.

A winter tall tale · as told in Plymouth

The windmill company that changed its aim

Plymouth Iron Windmill Company began in 1882 to make an iron windmill designed by Clarence Hamilton. Hamilton invented the Daisy air rifle in 1888, and windmill manufacture soon stopped. The business became Daisy Manufacturing Company in 1895. It is a remarkably decisive example of a company discovering that its other idea had better prospects.
