South Haven
The summer harbor keeps a winter rink, a maritime museum and an annual excuse to fling a frozen fish.
Clementine's onion-ring towers make height a legitimate ordering unit.
Icebreakers without the ice bath
Spend Saturday in the Michigan Maritime Museum, then skate at the covered outdoor rink when open and finish with hot drinks at Café Julia. Several kinds of water, arranged in a useful order.
Order lunch by height
Order a six- or twelve-inch tower of onion rings at Clementine's, then compare your ambitious construction with the lighthouse's steelwork from the shore. One is easier to dismantle with lunch.

Phoenix Street on Broadway breakfast → maritime museum → skating if open → Taste dinner or Black River Tavern music.
Saturday: museum, Café Julia and a booked rink session if offered, then Clementine's or Taste. Sunday: Flying Saucer, a short Kal-Haven outing and Harbor Light with takeaway; use a dated Free First Sunday for museum access.

Homemade onion rings
For a home riff, dip thick onion slices in a light seasoned batter and fry until crisp, then salt immediately. Serve with ranch and stack modestly; the restaurant has purpose-built equipment for greater onion altitude.

Three things most people walk past.
- The elevated catwalk's repeating metal supports, originally intended to keep the keeper above rough water.
- The tapering steel tower that replaced the earlier wooden light.
- The ring beneath the lantern, a reused component with a Muskegon past.

- Bring your meal to Harbor Light; its own kitchen does not supply dinner.
- Blueberries remain a defining local crop and food identity, even outside the summer festival.
- Harbor Light welcomes outside food and supplies house sodas as well as beer.
