West Michigan Lakeshore — Ottawa County · Town edition

Spring Lake

A lakeside village with quiet winter trails, neighborhood bars, and a holiday display determined to make the entire downtown sparkle.

Why winter

When summer boat traffic disappears, Spring Lake becomes a quieter place of waterfront views, comfortable restaurants, and nearly empty walking paths. Its lighted Lakeside Trail is maintained through winter, while the annual Spring Lake Sparkle celebration brings illuminated streets and community festivities. Nearby county parks provide skiing and snowshoeing when snowfall allows.

A winter tall tale · as told in Spring Lake

The Village That Changed Its Name but Kept the Water

The settlement now known as Spring Lake began as Mill Point in 1849. In 1869, the community adopted the name Spring Lake and established its village charter. Its working waterfront eventually became a mix of homes, hospitality, recreation, and community spaces. The name changed, but nearly two centuries later the village is still organized around the water.
